Prof. O. A. Itiola

Prior to the morning of the 21st day in the month of November, 1958, there was anticipation and expectation in the house of the Itiolas, obviously borne out of the desire to herald a new member of the family.

And so, the little Oludele Adelanwa was born to the admiration and excitement of the Itiolas, family members, friends, and neighbours alike.

By way of skipping the tale of the religious, disciplined and humble beginning of Oludele, Adelanwa grew up and attempted all the tricks and skills synonymous to children at his age and stage.

Between 1964 and 1969, little Oludele was enrolled into St. Lukes Demonstration School, Molete in Ibadan from where he sought secondary education at the Baptist High School, Iwo, between 1970 and 1974.

The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State came calling as Adelanwa, between 1974 and 1975, attended the Basic Studies Programme of the Institution.

In 1975, Oludele Adelanwa Itiola was admitted into the highly prestigious University of Ife (Great Ife), now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he obtained the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) Honours degree in 1979.

As a young undergraduate, Oludele was in the Pharmacy Department of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan as a Pupil/Intern Pharmacist, between 1979 and 1980.

It was the turn of the School of Health Technology, Maiduguri, Borno State, to tap from the brilliant brain of Itiola as he diligently and professionally served the school in his capacity as a Corp Member between 1980 and 1981.

His thirst and quest for higher realm in the field of Pharmacy took Oludele out of the shores of Nigeria to Chelsea College, University of London, London in the United Kingdom on a Nigerian Federal Government Scholarship Award. Oludele Adelanwa Itiola in 1983 completed the programme he commenced in 1981 with a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Pharmaceutical Technology.

The King’s College in the University of London, London, United Kingdom was next, as between 1983 and 1986, the list of Doctors of Philosophy by Nigerians increased as Oludele Adelanwa was awarded the prestigious Ph.D certificate in 1986.

Oludele Adelanwa Itiola’s sojourn into the teaching, or perhaps as been commonly put, lecturing world began immediately after, as in 1987, Prof. Itiola was appointed Lecturer 1 in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

That singular step has witnessed tremendous successes as Oludele Itiola became a Senior Lecturer in the University of Ibadan in1991 by way of promotion. He thereafter served as visiting Senior Lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State in 1999.

In 1999, Oludele Adelanwa Itiola joined the highest academic echelon as he was inducted as a Professor by promotion.

He became a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (MPSN), and Nigerian Association of Academic Pharmacists (MNAAP) in 1981 and 1987 respectively.

His membership of the Nigerian Institute of Biology (MNIBIOL) came in 1995 while he attained the highest height in the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, as he became a Fellow in 2012.

Oludele who hails from Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State has been a Sub- Dean, Head of Department, External Examiner, Coordinator, Dean, Associate Editor, Expert Reviewer, Technical Consultant, Chairman, and Director of Quality Assurance, before his current appointment as Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
