Dr. Abimbola Famuyiwa

Abimbola Famuyiwa had his first degree in Biochemistry (First Class honours), a post graduate diploma in Industrial Chemistry from Federal University of Technology, Akure, Master’s degree in Environmental Chemistry from University of Lagos, Akoka-Yaba and later a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. He started his teaching career with Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as a Technologist and later as a Lecturer in the department of Science Laboratory Technology. He served as a teaching Assistant at the University of Lagos (2009 to 2011), University of Strathclyde, UK (2013 to 2016) and Glasgow Caledonian University, UK (2015) respectively. He was an international visiting scholar to Northumbria University, Newcastle England UK in 2019. His area of research interest is in Analytical and Environmental geochemistry with specific focus in Toxicology and ecotoxicological studies, risk assessment, (Bio) monitoring and Analytical methods development. He is member of Society for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, Royal Society of Chemistry UK, Chemical Society of Nigeria, Institute of Chattered Chemists of Nigeria and Society for Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. Dr Famuyiwa was a recipient of Royal Society of Chemistry International travel grant (2020), Society for Environmental Geochemistry and health travel bursary (2019), Developing World Scholarship research grant (2019), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Academic Staff training and development research award (2018), Royal Society of Chemistry, Analytical Trust Fund Overseas conference travel grant (2015), University of Strathclyde Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry sections  travel grant, Royal society of Chemistry local section travel grant, Scotland UK, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, full PhD scholarship (2012). He recently contributed in a newly launched Home Biome project, a global research initiative to obtain baseline data on chemicals and microbial communities in regular households via a global citizen science-academic partnership (see mapmyenvironment.com).


 He has published many articles in high impact factor journals and presented contributed talks and posters in conferences in the UK, Europe, USA and Nigeria. He has served in many capacities in the Polytechnic and the society, some of which are the Head of Chemistry unit in the department of Science Laboratory Technology, member departmental accreditation committee, member Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics adhoc committee on scheme of service review, former Vice Chairman AAK Degun MITROS estate Community Development Association (CDA), Current Chairman AAK Degun MITROS estate CDA, former President and current member of Junior chamber International, Mapoly and Abeokuta chapter respectively. He loves travelling, writing and volunteering in charity organizations.
