In commemoration of  Diamond Jubilee of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has welcomed its pilot campaign to plant 60 economical trees for sustainable climatic change.

The interest of the Polytechnic was exposed during the campaign visit by the Institute’s Veterans to MAPOLY, led by the Ogun State Chapter’s Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the anniversary, Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi.

While welcoming the visitors, the Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji expressed his delightful thoughts for making MAPOLY the foremost beneficiary Polytechnic for green garden campaign of the NIPR.

He assured that the Polytechnic is ready to join hands, as hitherto done with some other allied Institutes towards regulating climatic change and environmental stability.

Odedeji revealed that a site had been designated for the green garden project immediately after receiving the proposal by the Institute.

In his words “The issue of environment, which has to do with horticulture, must be taken seriously, considering the climatic changes in the world”

“As a reputable Institute, your project is timely and key, and we have allotted a space within the campus where you can spread the planting of symbolic 60 trees”

Earlier, while addressing the Management of their choice in MAPOLY, Prince Femi Dokunmu said the Chapter decided to partner with the Institution considering her role in training Public Relations professionals in the country with a focus on indelible benefits for many generations to come.

He said “Our agenda is to leverage the Federal Government’s efforts in tackling climate change by going green on our anniversary”,

According to him, “The National Body of the Institute has directed all the State bodies to erect a green park by planting 60 trees as a symbol of the diamond jubilee of our establishment.

“Going forward, as the trees grow, we believe, symbolically, that the Public Relations training in Mass Communication of the Polytechnic will also be growing along”

The ceremony will take off in MAPOLY with the first Registrar of NIPR, Mr.  Adekunle Salu as well as Dr. Adetokunbo Fassy Yusuf, the Ogun State Head of Service; Mr. Kehinde Onasanya and the Rector, MAPOLY, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji amongst notable others on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

On the same day, an awareness rally on climate change, preservation and sustainability will begin from the NIPR secretariat, Oke-Ilewo down to Panseke and finally to MAPOLY Green Garden site.
